The Concept of Body Imbalance
When we complain about common ailments, we are actually noticing the symptoms of a more basic ailment - body imbalance. If the body becomes out of alignment – or imbalanced – it can cause stress, tension and pressure on the brain stem which in turn, impedes the flow of health and healing messages from the brain to some part of the body.
When this happens, the part of the body that does not receive the proper health and healing messages from the brain, will start to suffer and develop symptoms – or signals. These signals take the form of pain and discomfort.
These illustrations compare body balance to body imbalance and demonstrate how body imbalance compresses the brain stem which in turn, can have a negative impact on any part of the body.

How is Body Imbalance Detected?
Body imbalance or postural distortion is determined by bilateral weight difference, leg length disparity, visual inspection and improper biomechanics. In a laying down or supine position, the leg length may differ as much as one inch. Visual inspection can reveal head tilt, low shoulder, or improper spinal curvatures. Restricted neck movement or other decreased joint ranges of motion reveals improper body biomechanics. A close visual inspection of the patient will reveal the presence of body imbalance.
How is the NUCCA Spinal Correction Calculated to Correct Imbalance?
Once body imbalance has been determined, precise X-ray analysis, using physics and mechanics, is used to calculate a formula for each spinal correction. Each formula is calculated for that individual patient; no two spinal corrections are alike. Once the formula has been calculated, the NUCCA spinal correction is utilized to re-align the bone structure of the head and neck, removing brain stem compression and restoring body balance.
After the spinal correction has been made, a post X-ray analysis is used to determine the success of the correction. The NUCCA X-ray system is set up to minimize X-ray exposure to the patient. After the initial spinal correction, further X-rays are usually unnecessary.
What is NUCCA and How Does it Restore Body Balance?
The NUCCA spinal correction is a precisely calculated movement (correction) of the bone structure of the head and neck (painless and completely safe) that is used to remove interference from around the brain stem.
Brain Stem
The brain stem is where the brain and spinal cord meet at the top of your neck. This area of the nervous system controls all of your body’s automatic functions such as breathing, blood circulation, digestion and elimination, sexual activity, and posture (body balance).
If the bone structure around the brain stem is misaligned and compressing that area, it creates postural distortion (body imbalance) and can negatively effect physical, emotional, and even mental performance.
The precision NUCCA correction removes the interference
The NUCCA spinal correction balances the bone structure of the head and neck, removing interference between the brain and the rest of the body, to re-activate the body’s natural healing ability.
What is the Importance of Body Balance?
Discovery
Dr. Roger Sperry, Ph.D., won the Nobel Peace Prize by discovering that 90% of the brain’s activity is used to balance your body within the gravitational field of earth. He stated that if your body is distorted mechanically (off balance), it begins to effect the other 10% of the brain’s activity, which controls all the other body functions such as breathing, digestion, or thinking.
Interference
If the body framework (bone structure and spine) is in an off-balanced or misaligned position, it can impede or block the electrical and chemical (life giving) transmissions of the nervous system which controls all your body functions. This interference to the nervous system can cause or contribute to all kinds of symptoms and illness conditions.
Healing cycle
Published research studies have shown that when body balance is restored, the body enters a healing cycle that alleviates pain and symptoms; elevates the immune system, increases blood and oxygen circulation, normalizes nervous system communication and creates more optimum body performance.
What Does a NUCCA Spinal Correction Feel Like?
The NUCCA spinal correction is painless and barely felt by the patient. Because of the precise X-ray analysis, a correction can be made without any forceful, jerking or twisting movements.
Most patients will see immediate results on the first correction, many patients notice immediate relief of pain or headaches, a warm feeling in the painful area, experience a feeling of relaxation and increased range of motion.
What Can I Expect After My First NUCCA Spinal Correction
After the NUCCA Spinal Correction, you may experience a variety of changes within your body. These are due to the nervous system responding to the structural correction.
Symptoms can also be a positive sign that healing is taking place. In order to heal, the body must go through different cycles of repair which very often express themselves in some of the following ways:
- Alleviation of symptoms, tired or relaxed
- Light-headedness, possible headaches
- Cold-like symptoms (runny nose)
- Muscle stiffness in other areas of the body
- Pain in the area of an old injury
- Tingling and heat sensation
- Elimination changes (diarrhea or constipation)
You should not be concerned if the pain changes or moves to another area of the body. Symptoms may decrease immediately. However, the amount of misalignment and severity of the condition will determine the recovery time.
Please make the doctor aware of any and all changes. Remember, pain is a sign that the body is working, any changes can be part of the healing process.
How Do I Maintain My Correction?
Patients often ask what holds the spine in place once it has been corrected. When the head and neck have been replaced to their natural position, the body will regain its normal balance and relationship to gravity. This will release tension held by the body due to its compensated stressed position. A relaxed body structure is now more stable and functions more freely. This, along with some specific instructions about body position and movement and a simple routine of therapeutic stretching exercises will allow the correction to hold for weeks, months and sometimes even years.
Our experience has been that patients can maintain their NUCCA spinal corrections by using therapeutic exercises and certain types of massage therapy. Proper diet and nutrition can also help to maintain vitality and body balance.
